Intermediate Quilting Inspired By Nature

The 4 hour class teaches the 9 new design elements.
The 8 hour class (including a 1 hour lunch break) includes a design challenge where students are given an outline for their 40x 20 inch solid fabric quilt sandwich and design challenges will be given. This is a great interactive and hands-on class where students will be guided through the art of combining and tweaking designs to make them their own.

Class Description:

I am often overwhelmed by the beauty of nature that surrounds me, the details of a blooming flower or the majesty of a sunset, this series of classes has been inspired by the beauty of nature. With the foundation that was received in the beginners class, you are ready to build upon your skills. Join me as we study the elements in nature and translate their beauty into our sewing projects.

This series of classes will cover 9 new design elements with many variations within those designs. Our final class will be focusing on how to mix elements and create your very own designs. The techniques taught will focus less on the technical requirements for free motion quilting such as needles and thread rather on the design elements, breaking them down and producing them for yourself. This class will cover design elements such as pebbles, woodgrain, swirls, fiddlehead feathers and hoodoos.

WORKSHOP 3:

Trunk Show

1-2 Hours, minimum of 15 quilts

A trained teacher and gifted story teller, Dara will inspire, educate and fill the room with
inspiration to encourage all to stretch themselves in their quilting endeavors. If your guild or
group would like an extra half hour to an hour for ‘how do I quilt it’ time, please discuss upon
booking. Attendees should bring their physical quilt along with them and have sent a photo of
the quilt beforehand.

WORKSHOP 5:

How Do I Quilt it?

One of the biggest challenges quilters face is how to free motion quilt their top. This class guides students through the process of looking at quilts in a new way. Students must have taken a beginners and preferably intermediate class before taking this course. This class does not require the sewing machine. The course is 3 hours. If the group or guild would like an extension of the class and do actual quilting quilts must be basted beforehand. A full sized photocopy of the quilt should also be brought to the class along with a pencil, eraser and all quilting supplies such as thread, needles, scissors, quilting gloves and an extension tray for your sewing machine.

“Not only is Dara’s quilting creative and beautiful, but the finished quilting matches the theme. I can count on Dara to complete my quilts in a timely manner – usually within a week. Taking a slow-motion course by her is informative and enjoyable as her instructions are clear and she sets a pace that works well for everyone. It’s evident that she loves quilting and loves her customers and students.”
